At least a dozen cities across China have eased COVID-19 restrictions in recent days, with Shenzhen in Guangdong Province becoming the last metropolis to scrap tests for public transport and most indoor areas.

Many other first- and second-tier cities, including Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Tianjin, Chengdu, Zhengzhou, and Wuhan, also optimized similar anti-Covid mobility policies. Hospitals in many cities are also starting to accept walk-in patients without a recent PCR test.

In China’s financial hub Shanghai, authorities said on Sunday that residents will no longer need a negative test result to use public transport or enter outdoor venues such as parks and tourist attractions, while indoor business places, such as restaurants, shopping malls, and supermarkets still requires negative PCR test results within 48 hours before entry.

And the southern tech hub Shenzhen adopted a more relaxed approach starting Monday afternoon, allowing most indoor venues including offices and residential communities to open to residents with green health code.

Meanwhile, Shandong Province on Monday cancelled registration requirements for people wanting to buy fever, cough and sore throat medications. Authorities in various cities have also recently announced that people who test positive for the virus can quarantine at home. 

The changes of cities Covid measures came after two meetings held last week by Sun Chunlan, deputy prime minister of the State Council, saying that China’s epidemic prevention and control face new situations and tasks, as the omicron variant has become less pathogenic, more people got vaccinated, and the country has accumulated more experience in fighting the virus. 

China will continue efforts to promote vaccination, especially among the elderly, and speed up the preparation of medical resources, she added.

近几日来，全国各地结合疫情变化形势和各地实际情况，多地因时因势调整优化防控举措，不断提高科学精准防控能力。据不完全统计，近日已有十余座城市对防疫政策作出优化调整，涉及到核酸检测、公共交通、就医、买药、人员流动等方面。

12月5日下午，深圳市新型冠状病毒肺炎疫情防控指挥部办公室发布通告，全市社区小区、办公场所、餐饮商超及各类公共场所不再查验核酸检测阴性证明，凭健康码绿码、扫场所码进入。

12月4日晚间，山东则进一步明确，取消强制“落地检”，并明确居民进入公共场所，乘坐地公共交通工具，不再查验健康码和核酸检测阴性证明。居民通过互联网平台或者药店购买“四类药品”，不再查验核酸检测阴性证明，不再需要实名登记信息。此外，多地提出“密切接触者原则上落实集中隔离观察，符合居家隔离条件的密切接触者实施居家隔离”。

Three Chinese astronauts on board the Shenzhou-14 manned spaceship returned to Earth safely on Sunday, after accomplishing their six-month space station mission. Shenzhou-14's return capsule, carrying astronauts Chen Dong, Liu Yang and Cai Xuzhe, touched down at the Dongfeng landing site in north China's Inner Mongolia at 8:09 p.m. Beijing Time, according to the China Manned Space Agency.

China's central bank said Monday that it had renewed a currency swap deal with the monetary authority of the Macao SAR. The deal will allow the two sides to swap a total of 30 billion yuan for 34 billion patacas and vice versa, which aims at maintaining financial stability and supporting the economic and financial development of both sides, said the People's Bank of China (PBOC).
